We propose a new micro-displacement amplifer that uses the GMM(giant magnetostrictive material) driver of a high-speed on/off valve.This amplifer uses the "nested" and "tandem-arrayed" structure with GMM rods.According to the performances of the GMM rods,we manufacture a prototype of "nested" amplifier to be used for the GMM driver.We test the displacement of the GMM driver under different loads.The test results show that the prototype GMM driver which uses a coil with 1 700 turns and φ0.7 mm wires has the response time of less than 1.5 ms,the maximum load of 700 N and the displacement output of 78 μm under the load of 150 N,indicating that the GMM driver can well meet the requirements for driving a high-speed on/off valve.
